Panama Pavilion - Venice Biennale 2026 / by Antonio Jose Guzman

We are overjoyed to announce that we will officially represent Panama in the National Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale 2026.

Our proposal, part of the Dub Electric Station series, pays homage to the visionary curator Koyo Kouoh and will be developed in collaboration with curators Ana Elizabeth González and Mónica Kúpfer. Selected from among 89 projects, the work intertwines textiles, sound, and sustainability, in dialogue with our ongoing Dub Electric Station series, extending its energy from Ajrakhpur (India), where we worked in the studio of Indigo master Sufiyan Khatri, to our workshop in Amsterdam and research in Panama.

This project explores the memories of the so-called lost villages of the Panama Canal, communities brutally displaced during the creation of the Canal Zone. Through textiles, archives, and sound, we evoke the resonances of the Black Atlantic, migration, and cultural resistance, building bridges between memory, territory, and reparation.

We are deeply grateful to the Ministry of Culture of Panama, the international jury—comprised of Rossina Cazali, Miguel A. López, Gladys Turner Bosso, Jochen Volz, Carolina Álvarez Mathies, and Gianni Bianchini—our families, and all the institutions in Panama, the Netherlands, and around the world that have accompanied us on this journey.

With pride, from Abya Yala, we continue weaving paths between art, memory, and sustainability.
