Modernity and Aesthetics of the New Black Atlantic is available at:
The project consists of diverse materials such as photo’s and texts from places along Guzman ancestor’s routes, for the book the artist collects drawings, photographs and texts using as inspiration Hopscotch (Rayuela) a novel by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar. The Day we Surrender to the Air as Hopscotch is an introspective stream-of-consciousness where characters and images fluctuate and play with the subjective mind of the reader, and it has multiple endings and multiple ways of reading. Made for the artist’s documentary opening at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam 2009, the visual dramaturgy is inspired by Guzman DNA ancestry.
